The Institute for Water and Environment (IWE) was established under the Decision No. 594/QD-TTg dated 05 October 2007 and the Decision No. 2165/QD-BNN-TCCB dated 17 July 2008 by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on the base of merging three former research centers (Center for Water Resources Development and Environment, Center for Irrigation and Water Supply Research and Center for Coastal Land and Water Resources Research). The functions of IWE are Scientific Research, Technological Transfer, Training and International Cooperation, Water Resources Consultancy and Construction, Irrigation, Drainage and Soil Reclamation, Water Supply, Environment, Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation, Ecosystem Conservation and Restoration in Vietnam. The Institute is not only the sector- specialized research unit but also a regional specialized research Institute.
